Effects of Anorexia Nervosa on Peak Bone Mass
A study for 14-22 year old females with Anorexia Nervosa
No Longer Accepting Volunteers
Study Aim
Our goal is to determine whether a combination of estrogen (a hormone that has been proven to prevent bone loss) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (a hormone that increases bone formation) improves bone density in adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa.
This is a 12-month treatment study.
Study Visits
Total Compensation up to $910
Baseline, 6 Month, and 12 Month Visits:

Peripheral CT Scan (wrist and leg)

$90 compensation for each visit
Visit length: 3 hours
1.5, 3, 4.5, 7.5, 9 and 10.5 Month Visits:
completed offsite or at MGH

Many participants choose to complete these visits at their PCP's office, a nearby lab, or their Student Health Center.
